It is clearly marked by a past event, but what is it? He finds mysterious notes on his refrigerator, say who you are? He looks colleagues who do not exist. He seems to have lost completely.A Spanish production, but with Brad Anderson at the helm as director and an almost exclusively American cast, it is essentially an American film. I must admit that I kept shelving it for reasons I can not really remember now I finally looked, but there was probably something to do with Christian bale weight loss and crazy all the publicity. I thought the movie was about weight loss and Bales not much more. A boy in a way only hype for a commitment of actors to play the movie role, but the film blew me away, as simple as that. Christian Bale gives a solo trip here almost invisible before. No matter how many pounds he lost, it is a remarkable achievement. Director Brad Anderson succeeded brilliantly to design an atmosphere that is so compelling that another user on IMDb said you just have to know what the hell is happening here. I think this is the key factor that makes this movie so incredibly compelling. The set is an anonymous industrial town somewhere in America, which could be Pennsylvania, Michigan and New York (in fact, he was shot near Barcelona), but where the story really is not. Atmosphere of alienation that does. And Christian Bale gives such an intense performance that you really want to know the reason and background. Where on earth come from? We know it works in a factory fat, but why is the skin on the bones? Why he has not slept in over a year? Brad Anderson creates an atmosphere so dirty and incubator is like a hell, an urban nightmare. Somehow, it reminded me of the strange urban landscape Eraserhead David Lynch.Camera Obscura --- 9/10 |
