Users review: Plain and simple, this is one of the best family films ever made. It seems that the fact that someone other than Disney scannána be blinded by the few pundits (eg, Disney film scholar and critic Leonard Maltin) with many and varied charms. For Chitty, in fact, the creator of James Bond books by Ian Fleming and, horror of horrors produced outside Hollywood by Albert Broccoli, the man behind the series thrive; Bond film often. But a closer look reveals the credits at the same music composers, the Sherman Brothers much-heralded and Irwin Kostal, potentially dual; DOING nothing wrong when they wrote for Disney, but a way of fhága behind their talent when they signed on with Mr. Broccoli. (Comment Maltins score is forgettable film 2007 film guide.) The same thing happens with such choreographers Marc Breaux and Dee Dee Wood, famous for their work in general on Mary Poppins, but ignored, at least by Maltin, practices snappy and often complex Chitty. Indeed, the songs, background music and dances here as well or better than anything Disney and often actually higher the plot, rather than grinding at last the way is more usual. Point CASI Caractacus Old bamboo song and dance, providing not only immediate desire in mind (and dance), but also on the balance Chitty financial saving in the scrap heap. The cast itself is nothing short of brilliant, the American comic actor Dick Van Dyke wisely took no attempt an English accent, something many of us want They have done a few years earlier Poppins. (In a 1998 appearance on the show Rosie ODONNELL, the self-confessed Mr Van Dyke Leave limiting in a variety of English accents.) Players playing on the wage and children a real treat, charming and sincere without being cloying, and there's The supporting cast is filled with more great British character actors than under between head counts, not least of all to be Lionel Jeffries (actually six months younger than Van Dyke, whose father played) and finscé ; = al Benny Hill comedy in a rare straight role. And if thats not enough, theres always on the scene in Goldfinger himself (German actor Gert Frobe) sings and dances! Then simply stunning cinematography by Christopher Challis, the fabulous costumes by Joan Bridge and Elizabeth Haffenden, and the scheme Oscar-winning production designer Ken Adam incredible, whose high ceilings and sloping walls immediately recognizable ' The classics like Goldfinger and Dr.. Strangelove. And unlike Poppins, who is commended for his inexplicable streets clear of recreations studio in London, the film is actually going on location - and then some, showing absolutely amazing venues in southern England, France and Germany (including the fantastic, fairy-tale Neuschwanstein Castle). Maltin and others complained about the films special effects, called the shoddiest ever. What they talked about was the blue screen traveling matte shots of the car in front of a magical film optical blow-apart from the background sky. And I agree that some of the pictures are clear for students who know how to achieve them film. But, again, look at what is being neglected. The car itself, which undergoes a number of modifications for air and sea travel, mechanical special effects spectacular designed and constructed by John Stears. Stears, of course, the Oscar winning SFX on Thunderball and go on to win another one for a little film called Star Wars. But think what it might know about special effects? Oh, did I mention that the scannána co-written by Roal Dahl, someone who could be called a thing or two about children's stories. But enough. This film is absolutely delicious from the first frame to the satisfaction last, timeless anyone, but Hollywood film critics.
